I adopted a chicken which use to come sit on my gate every evening and leave in the morning for a whole week. I then spoke to it like I would speak to a human being and asked if she wants to stay by me and extended my hand and it came to me. No one claimed the chicken altho i sent messages to the neighborhood. The chicken is being raised with love and care and she has laid about 15 eggs for the month. I pick her up at times she sits on my lap stroke her back and we have a chat. i started loving this little thing. if she hears my voice she jumps on to the windowsill she comes into my kitchen. We treating he very well and she looks very happy plays in the sand has her place in the garage were she sleeps and lays her eggs

Comment on What to do with a Rooster you can't keep by Carol Mackintosh https://billrate.pages.dev/what-to-do-with-a-rooster-you-cant-keep/comment-page-1/#comment-25699 Wed, 27 Aug 2025 09:18:48 +0000 https://billrate.pages.dev/?p=8480#comment-25699 In reply to Cynthia A. Grayson.

@Cynthia A. Grayson, Hi Cynthia . As you have said your boy is just trying to protect his girls . Our roo did that to the point where he even drew blood . Well he is supposed to be our pet . So we were advised to catch him and carry him around the garden talking to him all the time. But to catch him don't chase him just walk after him till he puts himself in a position he cannot escape. Less stressful for him . It also shows the girls that his behaviour is out of order. I did that twice and now things are as we would like.

He is beautiful with red and gold feathers with his tail feathers giving off a green blue flash . His slippers are gray. Sadly we can't keep him because DONNY the head of the family also a silkie trys his best to protect his two ladies makes Tigger a bit competitive. I really don't want to have two separate cage's. I'm getting a bit old to be growing the bird family. So please could someone give him his forever home . He would be such a lovely companion. Thanks .

@Zayna,
Same here! - Except, my chicken died after eating avocado skin with some avocado flesh still on it - Not even the pit.

Now I am questioning if the avocado is good for me - if it is able to kill the chicken 🙁

I don't think chicken have the instincts to know what can kill them.... unfortunately...

@Kim, I have the same problem, I have complained and the new neighbors just do not care. I had fire ants, warned them I was putting out pesticide and they still let their chickens in my yard. They have completely destroyed my hostas, scatter my mulch all over, my door wall screen is full of holes and their crap is everywhere, I'm scared to even weed my beds. Some people should not have "pets". They are not mine and should not be in my yard. Any suggestions to keep them out. I cannot afford to fence in my entire yard.
